Meet Our Chairperson
CATHERINE ALICIA GEORGES, ED.D, RN, FAAN
Catherine Alicia Georges, the Chairperson of the Bronx-Westchester Area Health Education Center, is committed to improving the health and health care outcomes of underserved communities in the Bronx and Westchester areas through recruitment, retention and enrichment of the health care workforce.
Dr. Georges is Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Nursing at Lehman College of the City University of New York and is a highly recognized educator, practitioner and community activist. She has worked in various professional roles in New York City and is a sought after speaker, who has spoken on nursing and health care issues throughout the United States, Africa, South America, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. Dr. Georges is also a widely published author. Her articles appear in journals such as Image, Nursing Leadership Forum, Nursing Administration Quarterly, Ethnicity and Disease and the Journal of the National Black Nurses Association. Her ability to effectively lead was recognized by the National Black Nurses Association which elected her to serve as their fifth President. She is currently the President of the National Black Nurses Foundation.
Dr. Georges has initiated and currently manages a number of programs in the Department of Nursing at Lehman College. Some of these programs collaborate with internationally educated nurses and doctors. As a result of her strong work ethic, her commitment to effect positive changes in the health care industry, and her widely recognized professional standing, Dr. Georges is the recipient of numerous grants.
Dr. Georges received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Seton Hall University College of Nursing, a Masters of Arts degree in Community Health Nursing Administration and Supervision from New York University School of Education Division of Nursing, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Vermont. Dr. Georges holds licenses to practice nursing in the states of New York, New Jersey and the US Virgin Islands.
